The Why!?
If you'd heard the things we've been told recently you might think we are going off on a trip through Somalia wearing American flag bandannas and doing our best "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan imitations trying to get a "USA, USA, USA!" chant started . We've been told we were "naive," "crazy," "in for a rude awakening," and plenty more. They've said we'd be miserable, that we're wasting our money, the list goes on. You would never think that we'd be doing something as innocuous as going on a family vacation. I'm sure there will be times where all those things come to fruition but hopefully everything else will outweigh those moments.
We are taking this trip because we love to travel, we want our children to love to travel, and we want them to experience the world. While our children won't remember this trip, they will be able to look back on it years down the line and hopefully be inspired to get out of their comfort zones. Hopefully doing this trip,writing about it, sharing our experiences, our successes, and our failures will give other parents a little bit of confidence and hope, in spite of the reactions they may get from their peers.
Something that we are coming to realize is that there are not many resources for travelling with children. There's plenty of blogs and posts about flying with infants, but a dearth of information and opinions about traveling with children, at least what we consider traveling.
